Married to the Run

When my husband and I got together ten years ago, we envisioned a future together of fancy things and world traveling adventures, of the newest technologically advanced household objects, 'fun' cars and a couple kids.
Then reality set in...
He ended up with a job he hates, except on paycheck Friday, I ended up watching my degrees gather dust, and here we are with a house that is busting at the seams with our three children and endless piles of stuff and very little free time... for me.
As we grew a teensy, tiny bit older, my husband grew increasingly interested in running. I was always one to support others in athletic feats of competition, and encouraged him to begin racing in 5ks, 10ks, even 1/2 and full marathons...
If I ever knew where that would put me today...
Now, I am MARRIED TO THE RUN.
I occassionally struggle with the thought or the reality of getting it all done by myself with all three children (and the dog) when he is off racing in another town or state for the day, or even the week. I am truly proud of him and his accomplishments, as well as confident in my abilities to 'go at it alone'... It just seems very daunting at times.
Presently, I am focusing on supporting him in these goals he has set for himself, as I have definately found myself married to the run... for at least the next 5-10 years or so.

Let's do this!

So...I finally bit the bullet and registered for my 1st 5K!  I am nervous and excited all at the same time!  A few great Ladies and myself are running the Run or Dye this July as a team the Perfect 10s!  I know, super cute name right?
I have been wanting to get into road races and this super fun race seems the perfect introduction!  To prepare myself for the race I vow to drink less wine every night, NO carbs after 12pm and eat healthier all day.  Now I am fully aware that I should do all of things regardless but something about a deadline puts a fire under my ass!
As of today I have 2 months and 6 days until the race!  Let's go!!!!!

Meet Us

My name is Coretta Owen and I am a newly 30 year old, wife, and Mom!  My hubby and I recently celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary and we have three beautiful girls.  I am fortunate enough to not only be a SAHM but to also have the luxury of loving every single second of it (other SAHMs know what I mean)!  I feel like I am a walking cliche most of the time but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I love my husband and we make a great team.  I love my girls more than words can describe and I make it a point to relish in every single moment of every day.
I grew up in a small town in Connecticut that has no traffic light and the one store closes at 9pm daily.  I enjoy cooking dinner for my family and baking treats on special occasions.  We sing songs constantly throughout the day and have random dance parties to pass the time.  My life is not perfect but it is everything I’ve hoped for.
Within the last year I made the decision to pursue a certification through CAPPA to become a Labor Doula and started my own small business.  I feel as though I want to show my girls that Woman can really do it all.  We can be amazing Mom’s, Wives and Business Woman all at the same time.  And also that it’s great to be just one of those at any given moment, whatever makes you happy in life is what’s best for you.  I love, love, love helping Women bring their beautiful babies into this world.
I have grown more in the last year than all of my 20’s; parenthood really changes every aspect of your life and requires constant adjustments.  It is a ride that I look forward to taking every day for the rest of my life.
